Getting an early start....

A couple of weeks ago I was looking through an Australian quilt magazine that one of the ladies brought into our weekly meeting.......my goodness, it was a pattern that I saved at home years ago. I found the paper piecing difficult when I had tried it before but decided to try it again using  the freezer paper technique where you place the paper on top of the pieces to be sewn together. It worked beautifully (much better than trying to place the fabric on the back of the paper and stitching through the paper!). The nest was my idea for this one, rather that just making a block with a chicken, and since my daughter has several chickens as pets I thought I would make her a little wall hanging to give to her for Christmas....also one of the ladies in our group has chickens and she brings several dozen to meeting with her on occasion to give to any of us who might be needing eggs......I'll bet she would like one for Christmas too. I haven't done any thread work on it yet but plan to fill in the nest with some thread work to make it more interesting and the eggs will be stitched stitched as well. Good exercise and practice work for me.....more fun.
