We arrived home Wednesday night.... the 13th. We arrived later than we thought we'd be and were so exhausted we didn't even bother to unpack. Twelve hours on the road was a bit much for these bodies! Anyway....now it's Saturday evening and we've just finished a delightful dinner....small steak and salad for me and a steak and scalloped potatoes plus green peas for Tom. The wash is put away and the mail sorted through and taken care of. I managed to make the Quilt meeting yesterday and will have to get busy and finish the label for our "gift" quilt, in fact I have two to make and I should finish them by tomorrow....at least if I can finish them I can enjoy an evening watching TV while I sew them on the backs of the quilts.
Once I catch up with everything to do with the house it will be time to pack again and go up to New Hampshire to see John and Jenny...and our delightful Charlotte! She is so adorable.....it is just hard for me not to be able to see her more often. It is snowing in Vermont today....maybe I will get to see snow this time. I have the mittens and scarf ready just in case.
While I'm in NH I wil be taking a four day class with Lenore Crawford.....I've purchased lots of fabrics and would like to do some painting on the background fabric...but maybe I will wait on that as I really don't know that much about it .....I could do some applique of leaves on the background...enough to give it the look I would like. I'll see how much time there is before I leave. Aside from the class I will enjoy all of my time with Charlotte and John and Jenny.
Michigan was beautiful...the leaves were so colorful and the beach so relaxing. I love this time of year there....no one is there, really, just the gulls and a few of us who come up for the color. Our visits with friends were a bit sad.....almost everyone is battling some illness, Cancer, serious Arthritis, Congestive heart disease, etc. A very good friend that we visited on our stop in Atlanta was so upset that her children were going to put her into a "retirement" center. I spoke with her daughter the next day while we were on the road....it gave her pause to reconsider and I was very happy to find out a few days later that she can now stay in her home, at least for another year. She wants so desperately to die at home and if there is money enough she should be able to do it. The care is expensive as someone needs to be with her but if girls can make the effort to help out it will be the best for Jeanette.
We also stopped to see an Aunt while we were in Lansing. Charlotte is doing very well and her apartment is beautiful. She has macular degeneration which makes life a bit of a challenge but she seems happy. I was sad but excited too when she offered me some of her paint brushes and a few of her art books. I was delighted with her gift and hope to put them all to good use. Perhaps she will be able to come for a visit this Winter. She would enjoy it here during that time of the year. She turned 89 on her birthday a couple of weeks ago.
The biggest highlight of this trip was stopping in NC to stay with Dave and Sally for two nights before completing our drive home. Their place is so beautiful and refreshing to the soul. They have offered it to us during the month of May in the Spring......I am already looking forward to being there again. I'll be able to take my sewing maching and do some quilting too.
Now it's time to do a little designing on those labels.....
